Let me be the first to welcome you to Alvena; where tales of mighty heroes, powerful villains, and a world of adventure awaits you. I hope you too will consider becoming a Hero of Alvena.
Heroes of Alvena is a Pathfinder based Sandbox-style gaming community that is intended to allow users to group together and play games via OpenRPG in a persistent world, where you can create a character and join in different adventures with familiar faces on your own time. Where people can play and GM for each other under a set of universal rules; with a community that shares in all the grand stories and adventures.
This wiki exists for two major reasons outlined below.
- Branching From the Marches: Originally I was a member and moderator of The Black Marches and ran most of my games there; and I enjoyed the community greatly. Sadly, the other council member friends that I was working beside resigned for their own reasons; and I found myself very busy with a lot of administrative work for the site; settling disputes between members; overseeing the rules; determining new material to be added; and also running and playing in games. Feeling a bit ragged, and exhausted from dealing with both community drama and mechanical limitations, I decided to begin this site to get a fresh start.
- Alvena, The Setting: Alvena is my world. It is the world that I dreamed up several years ago, and it's the world I've been (very) slowly working on over the years; and it is my tabletop campaign setting. Alvena is a living, growing world, and it needs heroes to help shape it. Being almost non-existent even after several years of tinkering here and there, Alvena would make the perfect setting for an open Sandbox style game where the players could help build the world as they played. A world of adventures waiting for someone to take up the challenge.
It is important (I think) to note that this site was not built out of negative emotions. I loved the Black Marches, and more importantly I love the people who play there. However, I needed something different and I wanted to give people something different. If you're also from the Black Marches, then welcome to Alvena, and I hope you enjoy your stay - whether visiting or putting down roots. This is as much your story as it is mine.
